Costner seems to fill the boots of his character naturally
"Yellowstone" builds quickly with little introduction, but its story unfolds at the natural pace of a wilderness day, stopping at tribal rituals, cowboy conventions, and political intrigue. It’s a far-reaching undertaking that lingers at the seams between law and justice, family and friendship. He’s a world-weary man who’s seen too much and lied too often.
Country and family are his lifeblood
He hears footsteps coming his way, but he’s only able to fill his role out of habit as much as loyalty. While some of the action is a little jarring due to the inexplicability, it feels natural, as if the viewer is getting a genuine slice of life glimpse into another world. I hope the resolution of this saga includes an emotional payoff that justifies its breadth and its attention to detail.
I’m raising my rating to "9"
Update 7/20/2018: After four episodes, the series has a strong voice and a steady rhythm. We learn the fullness of each story from the roots to the fruit.
